Rosie Says: Treat Your Skin Right In 2017!

2017 has arrived and in the spirit of the new year it’s a great time to form new habits that will strength your dedication to caring for your skin. Here are 8 steps you can take for better skin this year.

Moisturize After Showering

We all know a warm shower strips skin of oils. Face and body lotions are excellent substitutes. Keep your body lotion right in the shower. Seeing it will remind you to apply it when your skin is damp, within ten minutes of turning off the water. PCA Body Therapy contains 12% lactic acid and is suitable for all skin types and conditions leaving the skin hydrated, smooth and radiant.

Wear Sunscreen Every Day

Doctors have long advised wearing sunscreen daily (at least SPF 30) and reapplying it often. Forming a daily habit of applying sunscreen is your greatest defense in the fight against the aging. You can choose from many PCA sunscreens including one of my favorites Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45. It’s unique quick-absorbing and light finish makes it ideal for those who dislike the feel of traditional sunscreen products.

Develop a Routine

You've known since middle school that makeup can mix with skin oils and dirt to cause zits. Cosmetics can also trap skin-damaging free radicals that float in the air. Cleansing the day away is so important to your skin care routine, if you don’t do anything else, don’t skip that. Use PCA Facial Wash or Creamy Cleanser to establish this routine. In time, you’ll see the results.

Clean Up After the Gym

Don't let your skin take a hit just because you've discovered an amazing new workout. Wipe your face, back, and chest after class, and change into a clean, dry T-shirt. Back home, hop into the shower as soon as possible.

Book a Yearly Mole Check

Having a dermatologist survey your body once a year is crucial, even if you're diligent about monthly self-exams.

Exfoliate Regularly

A baby's skin replenishes itself completely every 14 days, but by age 30, an adult takes a full 28 days to replenish. With all that extra time, skin cells have a chance to dry out and lose luster—unless you jump-start the renewal process by exfoliating. Use PCA Gentle Exfoliant weekly to help rejuvenate your skin.

Stick with the Program

Waiting for a new skin treatment to show results can be a test of patience. A good corrective skin care regime including a serum and/or a retinol can take six weeks to give noticeable results, so don't give up. That goes for skin lighteners and acne products, too. So give it a chance to show results before you move on. Schedule your consultation and get started on your personal beauty routine that will set you up for a lifetime of great skin.

Schedule Time for Yourself

That extra step of in-office treatments can make all the difference in the results you see. Working from a thorough consultation and taking into consideration if you are looking for a change in your skin or a healthy maintenance plan. Peels, Masks and Facial appointment recommendations will vary from every 3 to 4 weeks to sometimes seasonally, depending on the end goal. Whatever the suggestion, consistency is what it takes.

Rosie Says: Waxing 101

There are some waxing basics that everyone needs to know when planning to go hairless this summer.

1. Check the length of your hair. The best length for waxing is generally 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. This is about 3 weeks of growth.

2. Exfoliate. Use a loofah, exfoliating cream or washcloth and rub in circular motions. You want to remove any dead skin cells that may clog the hair follicle and cause ingrown hairs. Avoid irritating your skin by rubbing too hard. Don't exfoliate the day you wax. It will only cause more sensitivity and redness.

Avoid waxing when skin is more sensitive. It's best not to wax when your skin has had a lot of sun exposure or when you have used aggressive skin care products (such as AHA or retinoid treatments).

Give your skin about a week after any of these before you wax.

3. Consider a pain reliever. Taking an oral anti-inflammatory about an hour before waxing will not only keep the skin from swelling, but it will also alleviate some of the pain associated with waxing. This is optional and at your discretion. Some salons also sell topical pain relievers that you can spray or rub onto the skin. These take a minimum of 15 minutes to start working. If they are oily at all, you will need to cleanse your skin again before waxing.

4. Stay out of the sun 24 hours before and after your waxing service.

5. Moisturize your skin again after waxing and avoid sun. Freshly waxed skin burns more easily.

Till next time,
Rosie

Rosie Says: Shine This Holiday Season

Here it comes….the holiday season is fast approaching. It is a wonderful time of the year with celebrations galore.  While the goal most likely is to sparkle and shine, the added stress of longer lists and endless obligations can leave us feeling and looking worn out. Good skin does not typically come naturally; it tends to come along with dedication and following a good skin care routine without fail.

Before this ball gets rolling, let’s make a plan.

Start with the obvious….use a sunscreen such as PCA Perfecting Protection.

The sun is your skin’s worst enemy. It zaps it of moisture, it makes it look old, it instigates wrinkles and lines, it causes dark spots and it just makes your skin look bad. You can pretty much bet that skin that looks healthy, young and fresh is being protected from the damaging effects of the sun every single day, regardless of the weather. If you forgo a good UVA and UVB sun protectant, you’re just asking for weathered-looking skin.

Get a good night’s sleep.

While we sleep, our skin is hard at work to repair and rejuvenate itself—and it does its best work at
night. Staying up too late impedes your skin’s normal functionality, which is why it can look tired, dull and puffy come morning. Plan around those parties and as much as you can, go to sleep at the same time and make sure you get at least eight hours. This will help keep your skin looking refreshed.

Use a retinol such as PCA Intensive Brightening Treatment 0.05% Retinol.

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to use a retinol every single night to help slow the
aging process. Not only do retinols speed up cell turnover, but they also help to stimulate collagen
production for skin that’s plump, smooth and glowing.

Hydrate your skin with a moisturizer such as PCA Collagen Hydrator.

Hydration is one of the key components for great skin. If you don’t moisturize your skin (make sure to always use a moisturizer that is compatible with your skin type and skin needs), your skin looks dry and lines and wrinkles can become accentuated. Well-hydrated skin allows for your makeup to go on that much smoother, too.

Visit your Aesthetician (that’s me) for a PCA Peel, Mask or Facial treatment

Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells, but with age, that process starts to slow down and your skin needs a little help. That’s where exfoliation comes in. Your aesthetician will do this by prescribing the best treatment for you to remove those dead skin cells. This is the key to skin that’s bright, evenly toned and able to properly reflect light.

Follow these simple steps and let yourself shine.

Till next time,
Rosie

Rosie Says: A Visit to the Esthetician Is Important!

Isn’t time to stop guessing?

How many times have you made a visit to the department store or the drug store looking for a new skin care item only to be overwhelmed by to many choices or the wrong advice? So you take a chance and buy something with hopes it will work, only to add it to the pile of unused product and lost dollars. We have all been there.

Enter the job of your personal esthetician. I love my career because it’s my privilege to get to know you. When you come in for a service, any service, it becomes my job to listen to you. The questions I ask you are not only about your skin but the other factors that contribute to its well-being. By understanding your activity level, sun exposure, ancestry, medical history, etc., I can then make informed suggestions that will benefit your desire to look your best.

So talk to me. Talk to me about your skin care challenges, your desire for improvement and/or maintaining healthy skin at any age. This gives us a chance to discuss your goals and expectations for the first visit, and long term goals for the future. Let me help you take the confusion out of your skin care.

In addition, as an esthetician, I am trained to recognize early signs of many medical conditions affecting the skin, and will refer you to a dermatologist in such a case. We often work together with
complimenting services.
Don’t let it be said that one of your biggest regrets is lack of care you gave your skin. It’s time to stop
guessing.

Rosie Says: Essentials For Summer Skincare

Treat your skin right this summer with these tips from Rosie!

1. Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin
What it does: Exfoliation removes dead, dulling skin debris to prevent congestion and improve hydration from toners and moisturizers.
When: Perform twice a week on your face and décolleté in the mornings prior to toner, moisturizer, SPF and make-up application. Daily exfoliation is recommended for the rest of your body.
Bonus: Make-up will last longer on an exfoliated skin!
Don’t forget: After you exfoliate, follow with a hydrating body cream to seal in moisture, and always shield freshly exfoliated skin with an SPF.
Recommended products: PCA Gentle Exfoliant, PCA Rejuvenating Serum, PCA Body Therapy and Perfecting Neck and Décolleté cream
Recommended treatments: Oxygenating Trio, Sensi Peel

2. Keep skin hydrated
How: Up your regimen’s level of hydration with serums containing moisture-binding ingredients. They work best when layered underneath a moisturizer. Toners are a refreshing moisturizer prep, working to even out skin porosity.
Recommended products: PCA Total Strength serum or PCA Hydrating Serum
Recommended treatments: PCA Hydrating facial, Intensive Vitamin C treatment

3. Make friends with H20Why: Higher temperatures and more time outdoors leads to internal dehydration, which can result in headaches and dizzy spells!
What you can do: Eight 8-ounce glasses of plain, filtered water every day help maintain critical moisture balance of the body and skin, and assist in detoxification. Tip: If you drink caffeinated beverages, you must triple the amount of water you drink!
Recommended: Plain and pure water!

4.) When in doubt, apply (and reapply!)
Why: It’s not enough to just apply sunscreen, you must apply enough, and apply frequently. Studies indicate that most people do not apply nearly as much daylight protection as they should.
How much: A teaspoon for the face. For the body, about as much as would fill a shot glass.
How often: Re-apply every two hours.
Tip: Stay out of the midday sun from mid-morning to late afternoon whenever you can.
Bonus: PCA's sophisticated formulas and technology let you select sun protection that works with your skin condition. That means you can choose oil-free, matte formulas, extra emollient formulas for dry skin, or a water resistant formula for sports activities. They are also recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as effective UVA/UVB sunscreens.
Recommended product: Weightless Protection broad spectrum SPF 45, Perfecting Protection broad
spectrum SPF 30, Protecting Hydrator broad spectrum SPF 30, Hydrator Plus broad spectrum SPF 30 or Active broad spectrum SPF 45 (water resistant)
5. Soothe over-exposed skin
What: You forgot the sunscreen, didn’t apply enough, or got caught in a sunny spell.
What’s next: Unfortunately, the damage is done, but you don’t have to suffer in pain! Super-soothing botanicals and cooling gels can help prevent peeling and reduce redness and inflammation.
How: Apply cooling balms generously over-exposed skin.
Recommended products: PCA Après Peel Hydrating Balm, PCA Anti-Redness Serum, PCA Silkcoat Balm
Recommended treatments: PCA Pigment Control treatment, PCA Advanced Revitalization treatment

Rosie Says: The Neck and Décolleté

Spring is here! Short sleeves and open necklines are back. Are you ready, or should I say is your skin ready?

This month’s target zone is the neck and décolleté.

The skin on the neck and chest is typically more sensitive, making skin aging more visible and harder to treat. Even those who regularly care for and protect the skin on their face often neglect to do the same for the skin on their neck and chest area. This area can also be an obvious giveaway to a person’s age.

The most common visible signs of skin aging on the neck and chest include laxity, wrinkling, redness, hyperpigmentation and uneven texture. So what’s a girl to do?

The good news is it is never too late to reverse the aging process! The first place to start is to treat your neck and chest as an extension of your face. By cleansing, moisturizing and protecting with your daily SPF your skin’s destiny will be changed with noticeable results.

I offer a treatment specific to this area that can be done with the PCA peel or alone. The Perfecting Neck & Décolleté Treatment is formulated to target the neck and chest problem areas. The benefits include rapid results for firmer, younger looking skin in addition to antioxidant and pigment-inhibiting benefits.

Offered this month at Shine is the INNER BEAUTY/OUTER GLOW box set. This includes the Perfecting Neck and Décolleté Cream, Peptide Lip Therapy and Ideal Complex Revitalizing Eye Gel. These three products will target the “forgotten zones” and reduce signs of aging with proven results. The Perfecting Cream is formulated with Retinol, which as you may have heard is the key ingredient that reverses sings of aging!

Rosie Says: PCA Chemical Peel

Are you ready to take your skin to the next level? Let’s talk about the PCA Chemical Peel.

Sure it’s a scary name but it has awesome results. Chemical peels are perhaps one of the most
misunderstood spa treatments out there, so I want to take some time to discuss what a chemical peel is and why you have nothing to fear.  In the end, you’ll love what they have to offer.

The topical application of acids is one of the most dependable and widely recognized methods of
improving the overall health and appearance of the skin. Advanced exfoliation can help you look
younger, reduce or eliminate skin imperfections such as sun spots and acne scars, and reduce the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Numerous studies have shown that all chemical peel solutions
stimulate collagen. It can be simply said that healthy skin is beautiful skin.

The PCA peel is a blended acid peel. A blended acid peel modifies the intensity of the solution but not the results. The modification allows for monthly treatments which in turn promotes healthy cellular
turnover rates. One of the best things to know is that these treatments are beneficial for most, if not all skin types. Sensitive skin becomes healthier at the cellular level and therefore stronger and less reactive.

Additionally, topically applied products are able to absorb into the skin more effectively when it is properly exfoliated, allowing for accelerated results.

So, with all of these benefits and little or no downtime involved, let’s take your skin care to the next level.

Rosie Says: Men's Skin Care Is Important!

Hey guys, this month we are focused on your skin care needs. Although men traditionally spend less time on skin care, the benefits of a daily routine should not be ignored. These benefits include but don't stop at: a younger, more youthful appearance, healthier looking skin and smoother shaves.
Men's skin is different from women's and daily shaving can lead to inflammation.Higher testosterone levels lead to oilier skin that remains stronger later in life. However, as men age and hormone levels decrease the skin's ability to produce new and protect existing collagen is diminished.
A simple yet effective daily routine can include just a little more than cleansing and shaving. Sunscreen with broad spectrum protection should be applied liberally to the face and neck.By replacing that sunscreen with a nighttime moisturizer your routine can be complete. Washing your face at night is an important step considering environmental exposure throughout the day.
Whatever your age, if you are ready to step up your game, you can then add in a serum to help a particular challenge.Whether you are correcting an acne issue, ingrown whiskers or preventing wrinkles, adding a serum into the routine can make a world of difference.
The SKIN CARE SOLUTION FOR MEN trial size kit offers you a chance to try a 3-step system that will keep your skin calm, hydrated and healthy. Recommended daily products include THE TOTAL FACE AND BODY CLEANSER, TOTAL STRENGHTH SERUM, WEIGHTLESS PROTECTION BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 45 and REBALANCE MOISTURIZER.
We also offer some great treatments. The DETOX DEEP PORE TREATMENT purges the skin of blackheads leaving it purified and with a clearer complexion. The LINE MINIMIZING TREATMENT FOR MEN is effective in treating aging skin, pigment disorders, smoker's skin and photodamage.
